NonparametricBananas Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) Hello! I was just accepted by NCSU into the zoology PhD program on Apr 16. The notice came with a request to complete the financial responsibility form .... by May 1. My cosupervisors have said that I will be getting a TAship with tuition waiver and according to the values they've quoted for me so far, it should cover the required minimum for the F-1 (edit: or J-1?? I have no idea which one I will be needing -- will read more on this soon) visa. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten any literature or notice with this information on it yet. Does anyone have any advice on what to do considering the tight timeline? Edited April 19, 2015 by NonparametricBananas
MathCat Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Well, you still have two working weeks for them to get this paperwork to you, so I wouldn't freak out yet. But, you could call the department tomorrow if you are really worried.
fuzzylogician Posted April 19, 2015 Posted April 19, 2015 Can you write back and ask how to handle the situation, since you've been promised the TA assignment but haven't received the paperwork yet? I'm sure you're not the first person to have had this problem. I'd assume they will have you hold off on filling out the forms until after you get whatever official approval you require. No reason why they would want to do the work twice or have information that is not current.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do considering the tight timeline? Omg, I can't believe I found a situation which is very similar to my situation. In my case, things are not so bad about deadlines, since my international office deadline is July the 1st or something like this. However, I am freaking out right now too, because I can not do anything (like housing f.ex.) without financial statement. And my grad coordinator doesn't answer my email. I am also freaking out because they (PI, grad coordinator and program director) don't tell something like "please, wait, we will prepare this documents for you later". They just avoid answering this question. As I believe, perhaps it is a question of policy. In a paroxysm of rage (lol, i was not ok at this time) a have made a question on "stack academia" So, I am still curious about this situation and waiting like an idiot. NonparametricBananas, did you get your financial statement?
NonparametricBananas Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 Yes! My cosupervisor got back to me and said that the grad secretary would be composing a letter for me ASAP. I sent it in just yesterday for evaluation. Hoping it's quick. Have you emailed your program coordinator?
ElenLane Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Cool, I guess for university it is very important to provide you everything in time because they are interested in you (I am trying to calm myself down with the same thought). I emailed my grad. coordinator 5 days ago with no response. They are probably very busy now since deadline for offer accepting\declining is April 27. I hope I will get news soon, or I will email PI and international office.
