@ThesisTerror724- Congrats! I know you were getting frustrated by their lack of movement.

My USF visit is almost at an end, and some new information is making me lean in that direction- specifically that the department hired 2 new professors whose areas of research line up with my own nicely. It doesn't help that I adore the fact that they also require 3 hours of professional development courses so you can learn the nitty gritty things like how to build a syllabus, write a grant proposal, and look for a job. I'm planning on teaching, and those skills are priceless.

Yeah, MSU is going to have to make a strong case.

@1428 Elm St Rutgers was amazing much to my surprise. So I am currently deciding between UCI and Rutgers. Rutgers did mention that they are hoping to admit all of the students they invited out so IF I am accepted (they will be sending decisions this coming weekend) then I will have a hard choice to make.

So have the vast majority of us heard back from our schools/made the decision?

I still have a few schools I am waiting to hear back from, I assume I didn't get in. Should I email them?

I have heard from all 8 (note to anyone else, this was way too many to apply to IMO). And yes, on decision!

@crimqueen I wouldn't assume you didn't get in, you may be high on the waitlist. I know I have started sending formal declines to the schools I was accepted to which should open some spots for other people.

Side note: I know I have said this before, but I seriously love the comradery on this thread. Everyone has been so wonderful, it makes me so happy to see how excited everyone gets for each other! :)

Personally I would wait a little longer if you've contacted them regarding your position on the list already.  I don't believe there are literal numbers (for us anyway) as to the position on a wait list; especially for UMD. That being said, if you haven't heard back by the end of the week I don't think it would hurt to send another correspondence.  You may be able to find an arbitrary ranking (high on the list, low, medium, etc) but I don't think they would tell you how many are in front of (or behind) you. Keep your head high and best of luck!

Thanks for your reply and I have not been online here for a couple of days. However, I still haven't heard anything and when do people usually decline their offers? Eg. I am on the wait list for Rutgers (first choice) and I wonder when I will hear back. as far as I was able to read, they want to accept all 15 applicants who went to Rutgers the past weekend. I haven't emailed the school in a month, and not sure if I should contact them again.

congratulations on all your offers and decisions. UCI sounded amazing but I did not apply as I believed I wouldn't get in. (I regret it now)

I would definitely contact them if it has been a month. All PhD programs must adhere to the April 15 deadline (students must give intent by then unless given permission to extend the time).  Since that's only a little over a month away I would think the students that were going to decline would have done so; though a few schools may still be ironing out financial details and they may be waiting to hear back from all schools before committing. Keep your head up!

I still haven't heard anything from American so I am assuming rejection. I am still on Delaware's waitlist (which I see someone got off of today ? Not me). So far my only offer is from Indiana!

Indiana has invited me out to visit. As they have given me free reign to schedule the visit I am assuming I will be the only one there at the time of my visit... This has me very nervous! It's different when you can visit a department with a group of others who are in the same situation as you. Did anyone else visit a school solo?

All of the schools I visited (4) were solo. The visits went well, I liked being able to talk to who I wanted and no compete for answers/attention (ha I swear I'm not needy!) the other grad students in current cohorts did show me around and answer questions as well!
