JD - (0) Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 This topic regards the applications of the combinations of multiple fields and their outcomes. Raise questions about combining different fields, (sciences and humanities), and how these can be done.
JD - (0) Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 I know that most people, once in the science sides stay there, and likewise with the humanities. Though very seldomly, sometimes, there are those who upon acquiring a masters in one may decide to combine, or switch to the other side. I am currently in such predicament. I currently have a masters in French and Francophone studies, a semester to complete my masters in Linguistics, but I want to switch to Soil and Water Science, or AgroForestry. I do not want to forgo of my linguistics ( maybe) but I really want to further my studies in the Ag dep. Any comments, concerns, opinions would help with that decision.
fuzzylogician Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Can you explain how you think your background in French/linguistics fits with Soil and Water Science/AgroForestry? I don't see how one would inform the other. Vene 1
TakeruK Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 The Earth science fields have a lot of interdisciplinary areas of work but your two example fields seem a little too unrelated. Maybe it will come in handy if you were to do field research on specific sites in a French speaking country, but that would just be for your convenience, it would not really help advance the research. I do know some people who have switched from a science field to a humanities field. One person has a Physics MS and went to a Philosophy PhD (Philosophy of Science). Another has a science PhD and works in a history of science field.
