IzzahPor Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Just received my scores for the GRE (first take): 162 verbal (90% percentile), 158 quant (71%); 5.5 AW (98%)I am hoping to apply to the top MPA and MBA programs. Given my scores, do you think I should retake it?My GPA is a bit on the lower side 3.3 overall and a 3.6 major GPA from a top university. My job experience should be able to balance that out at a bit as I am one of the youngest employees ever at a very prestigious development bank and am a director of a global profit for the past two years. Any thoughts would be very welcome!
RCtheSS Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) Your scores are well within the range for most well-known MPP/MPA programs. If you haven't already, look into the admissions sites for the schools you're considering to find their average scores for incoming students. You can also check the Results List on this website to see how other applicants have fared with their scores and GPA. Work experience is definitely a plus as well. Don't forget to hone in on your interests and goals as they relate to each program in your SoP! Edited September 8, 2015 by RCtheSS
GREMasterEMPOWERRichC Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Hi IzzahPor,Do you know the specific Programs that you plan to apply to (and the application deadlines for each?)? That information will impact whether you should study and retest or focus on crafting your application(s).As RC has pointed out (above), you can do some research to see how competitive your GRE score is. Most Programs offer some type of data (average GRE scores for incoming classes, the median score, or some other data point) as a basis for comparison. If the websites don't offer the information that you're looking for, then you can reach out to the Program directly to ask your questions. GRE Masters aren't born, they're made,Rich
