pickfights Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Hi all,I was wondering just HOW cliche is it to start an essay with a quote? :x I want to stand out from the jump but I don't want to be cliche. Also, if people are interested in reading each other's essays and providing feedback, I'd be happy to do so!
rising_star Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Don't do it! It's way cliche and over done.
pickfights Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 Ha! Thank you! My other option is to start in a super unconventional way, and I guess that's the one I will go with! The option to share essays still stands.
UMichHopeful93 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 For all of my essays, not just my ones for grad schools, I like to open with a statistic that's relevant to the topic. It's sounds a bit more scholarly and analytic, and less poetic, if that makes sense?
green_dots21 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I wouldn't do it. If you absolutely need to include the quote, work it into the text.
