Hello everyone!

I hope that you will be able to guide me in a very important career decision.
I am a student from Pakistan. Recognizing a desperate need and an interest I wanted to pursue a majors in counseling psychology. However due to lack of choices and financial constraints I enrolled in a BS Accounts and Finance programs in one of the top universities here. I have done up to 15 credits in Psychology and 6 Credits in Statics. I am in my final year of Bachelors now with a decent GPA and I am aiming to do a Masters in Counseling.

However I am not sure of the route to take. Some people I have talked to suggest that I should do a MS in General psychology first and then narrow it down to counseling. My ultimate aim is to end up in UN and work for with the trauma therapy experts.

Keeping in mind that US universities cost ALOT, are there any programs which you think would be suitable for a novice like me?

Theres also the option of going for a Masters in Social Work, which enables you to do counseling and is more versatile than a Masters in Counseling.  However, if you want to work with trauma therapy experts, you might want to consider getting a Ph D in counseling, as thatll qualify you more so than just a Masters.

If you just want to provide counseling to trauma patients, then a Masters of Counseling under a teacher that studies trauma would be sufficient or a program that offers classes in trauma related disorders.

Try Adler School for Prog Psych. Very clinically focussed (non research based) and easy to get into if the work is all that matters to you. I've got an awesome practicum placement from it. It's a new school so you have to put in the work to be successful. But terminal masters with good training for counselling.

only thing- it's a private school so fees are ridiculous- 45k for the 2 years. I was able to get financial aid and can tell you more about it if you PM me.

But, yeah, that's one option...
