Should I have a car in Notre Dame, Urbana-Champaign, or Seattle?

Hi all,

For class I have to make a budget for three of the grad schools that I'm applying to (ND, UIUC, and Washington) and I would like to know if I should budget for a car for any of these cities (insurance, gas, etc).

I also have to find apartment costs for each of these cities. Any good cites to recommend?

I recommend looking at the pinned topics in this forum, specifically those about cities to live in without a car and about tools for finding information on cities.
