alejandro112 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 (edited) Do you get paid once you graduate and start doing your fellowship? I was just wondering if SLPs get paid during the residency as I am trying to figure out how much money I am going to need to borrow. I heard audiologists make on average 40k during their residency (in California), but that is 12 months I believe and not 9. I will be attending school in New York. Thanks Edited November 6, 2015 by alejandro112 typo
Jolie717 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I believe that all CFYs are paid, unless you have some really unusual circumstances. For example, I read that if I were to take a paid CFY during completion of a specific PhD program, they would drop their funding during the CFY year. So in some instances you might opt for an unpaid CFY.
slptobe92 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Yes you should be paid during your CFY. Some places offer unpaid CFY positions but I'd steer clear of those.
alejandro112 Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 Thanks does anyone know what they pay? I am trying to figure out if I am going to need a co-signer for loans. Thanks!
jpiccolo Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 The only thing you shouldn't expect pay in is externships.
Yancey Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 How much you get paid for your cfy varies greatly depending on things like location(different minimum standards of living), setting, and company/district.
delete-account Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 http://www.asha.org/Careers/Salary-Data.htm this may be helpful! I've never heard of someone getting paid less than $20/hour, with benefits, for their CFY. Talk to your program director or see if you can reach out to alumni from your school - they should be able to get some information for you!
