Hello everyone,

I had few questions to ask. I have received a very positive reply from a professor with whom I want to work. The reply follows as such:

" Hi, Nemog:

Thank you for your email! Your background and research interest fit in well of my laboratory. I would encourage you to apply to the graduate school here at XYZ. For your information, I can recruit student through either cell molecular biology program in Department of Biological Science or the neuroscience phd program.

Please let me know if you have any more question.

Best,
Abc"

After that we exchanged quite a number of emails
following some questions I had to ask him. The professor's last email was,

" Thank you, Nemog. Looking forward to your application!

Best,
Abc"

Does it mean that I have got a sure shot chance of getting admitted to this program? Can anyone throw some light on this? Does it at all depend on the professor to select students from the applicants pool?

Most professors respond positively because they like to see enthusiastic applicants, but you still have to get into the program.

That being said, it sounds like the fit is good, which is the most important part, so you should have at least a decent shot

It sounds like the professor gets to select a student. The positive tone is good news, but it doesn't guarantee anything. You'll have to just wait and see.
