Hi all,

Does anybody have any suggestions for a reliable laser pointer/presentation clicker? I don't need to go super cheap (although I don't need top of the line either) - my main concern is reliability. Any help is appreciated!

The kensington is good but my recommendation is the Logitech R800. It has a timer that vibrates at t-minus 5, 1, and 0 minutes.

Did not even know this was a thing! So this is something you can set based on how long you're supposed to talk? Wow. (That might be beyond me honestly, but I will check it out!) Thanks, lewin!

I think most of the remotes these days are pretty much all the same. Here's what I use, in case you wanted to compare: http://www.amazon.com/Targus-Multimedia-Presentation-Remote-amp09us/dp/B007I51H84/ref=sr_1_4?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1448424529&sr=1-4&keywords=targus+laser+presentation+remote

The nice things about this remote is that it has a button to blank out the screen completely (instead of having to go to your laptop to hit "B") And in the battery compartment, there is a switch to choose between PC, Mac Keynote and Mac PPT (although nowadays all the software can recognize the same keystrokes). Also a compartment for a spare battery too so you can always have a backup with you.

But the downside is that it's more expensive and a little large (it's a pretty old model!).

Yes, you can set whatever countdown you want. Plus it has a green laser which are like, way, way cooler than red lasers.

You might be in grad school and/or academia when....

I use my presentation remote waaaaay more for entertaining my cat and dog than actually presenting. It works much better than those cheap pet store lasers. Still collecting data one whether they prefer red or green.

It's very useful for teaching large lectures, so I use it on a weekly basis during the semester. I've never needed a timing option because I always either know exactly where I need to be (conference) or it's not that important (teaching). I guess it's nice if you're less experienced and don't have a good sense of timing. I also think I prefer the red laser to the green, but I hardly use that feature.

Everyone I know who has a personal laser pointer uses either the Kensington, the Logitech, or the Targus, in that order of frequency.

I have the Logitech R800. I sprung for that one because of the green laser pointer and the countdown timer built into the LCD display. I also love the ergonomic feel of the grip.

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Professional-Presenter-Green-Pointer/dp/B002GHBUTU/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1449739952&sr=1-1&keywords=logitech+pointer

Logitech also sells the R400, which is the same except the pointer is red and no LCD screen/timer.

I don't think I have ever had to change the batteries, and Amazon says I bought it in Feb 2013. (I had the R400 first - I actually snagged it in Nov 2010 during a sale for like $20 - but I lost it.)
