Hi, I thought we could have a forum where everyone can talk about school psychology if that is the field they are going into. Talk about what school(s) you go to or are applying to. GRE score requirements. Other application requirements. If you are going LSSP or PhD. Why you want to be a School Psychologist. Type of employment/internship/volunteer work you did as an undergrad to better your CV for grad school. Questions concerning school psyc. Comments concerning school psyc. Anything at all about school psyc.

This is super late, but where did you end up applying? There isn't much School Psych on this website it seems :)

Haha, I know. There for a while, I was thinking I was the only one who wanted to go into School Psyc. I applied to a couple of schools in North Texas. The only reason I am not giving the names of the schools is b/c I know that some of the professors at the schools I applied to are members here. I have an interview on the 2/26 though. YAY...and it's my top school! Let the sleepless nights until the interview begin!

I know! I haven't been able to stop thinking about the interview since I found out I was going to be able to do one! Yours is sooner than mine at least! Best of luck!!!

Hello to you! It's really funny... last night, right before I got this message from you I got an email from the Department Director and was accepted!!!!!! I am jumping up and down!!! I was starting to believe that there was no way I was going to get in and that I was really dumb for only applying to one school. I hope all is well with you! :)

OMG!!! Congrats, that's great! I got accepted as well!!! YAY for us, lol. It ended up being the only school I applied to as well because it was truly the only school I would actually go to.

How funny! Well, we're really lucky (and awesome, obviously) to have gotten in after only applying to only one school hahaha. I can say that now because I was kicking myself for it prior to hearing anything ;)

Congratulations again! I am so excited...I can't wait to get started!!

hey guys, I was wondering how important school rank is in the school psych field? The only school that Ive gotten into as of yet isnt very well ranked, but then again does it matter? We just get certified and start working right?

Hi LTee,

Where did you find school psychology rankings? I can only find clinical, etc. rankings. Would you mind posting a link? I am curious as well :)

Well Im actually referring to the school in general, its a small unknown school. I feel like Ive seen school psych program ratings somewhere online but I cant remember where. Do you think its more about the certification that where one goes to school, I know theres a national shortage of school psychs, but with the debt I will be accruing I just want to make sure Ill get a job right away regardless of where I go to school.

I do not think the rank of the school matters at all, as long as we are certified. The school I am going to go to for grad school is probably not that well known in the field but it is well known for the program in my area and in all the school districts around because the majority of the LSSPs they hire were mostly educated at my school. So as long as we are certified and well educated in school psychology, I think we will be just fine.

I interviewed at 3 schools for school psych, state and private, all accredited and full NASP approved. They all said and some showed me info, that their grads were working either in May or by August of the year they graduated. I admit I didn't press one school (Univ of Hartford) if they were all working as School Psychologists, full time or part time, etc. but most had good stats for jobs.

That is very encouraging! The schools I looked at said the same thing. Hopefully it will be the case in 3 years, after my schooling and internship ;) I have a feeling it will be. What an exciting field!

Did any of you guys get any tuition waivers/assistantships for your program? Or will you be relying on loans?

Posted

Two schools I applied to had assistantships/grants for masters students but nothing was guaranteed as it would be with PhD. I can't take full loans for a masters, so I will live home if I can't get funding the first year and commute or try to find work that will pay for 1/2. I am also looking at scholarships, a long shot, but it can't hurt.

At the school I will be attending, only PhD students get funding. However, I received a graduate student scholarship, a grant, and one of my undergraduate scholarships is going to continue until I graduate from graduate school. I will not be taking out loans.

That's, great, re the funding. I am getting frustrated because everytime I check the FA site, they say I haven't sent in forms...which I have twice! I know they must get a lot of tax forms, etc. but I really want to see if I get any grants, etc.

They probably just haven't updated your status. I'm sure everything will turn out great for you. Good luck!

I was accepted with a part-time assistantship to East Carolina University, just got the call this morning!
