I submitted my application to Purdue, and here is a snippet of my confirmation email:

Finally:  we recognize the anxiety associated with the admissions process, especially given the popularity of websites and wikis where individuals post information about their acceptances and rejections.  We want to emphasize the fact that, unless and until you receive a rejection notice from us, you most definitely remain a competitive applicant in our pool of potential candidates (even if other people are posting online that they have received offers from Purdue).

I just thought this deserved a special shout-out. What an in-touch-with-applicants' kind of approach. What a nice thing to say. What a level-headed, clear-eyed, compassionate little caution against what goes on right here in Gradcafe. And would it really be so hard for other programs to follow suit? Go Boilermakers!

That is awesome!

I remember two years ago everyone was getting Duke rejections and I had not yet received one. Then there was a lull of a few hours and I thought for sure that I was either waitlisted or accepted. Another few hours passed and I got my rejection.

Gradcafe is great for the community and the support you get when submitting and waiting, but it also has its downsides.

I didn't even apply to Purdue and their graduate advertising system sent me a birthday email on my birthday! (They obviously had gotten my information from the GRE).

So, I'd say +2 for Purdue.

To be fair, they send that out because Purdue does this kind of bullshit unofficial waiting list (or at least used to). They dont actually reject anyone until after the 15th, but keep all apps active until they have the number of people they want.
