How are you guys dealing with referees who are completely not responding ? My first reference on CSDCAS is due Jan 1st. After 6 emails still nothing. I'm going into panic mode a little bit...

Is it a professional reference, or a professor?

First- check to see if (somehow) you have the wrong e-mail saved, or if this person has switched to a new e-mail. I would also try a phone call (if you have the number or extension). With the holiday/break, I doubt you could try an in-person visit.

Also- is there anyone else you can ask for a reference? With only a handful of days to go, and the holidays, I personally would not bank on this first reference coming through- especially if they haven't answered e-mails. I would try and obtain a different reference ASAP.

I am sorry you are having to go through this- especially right before the holidays, and deadline.

yeah its shitty... the reference is academic and I had no problem about a month and a half ago when I gave them all the paperwork... but now Im kinda screwed. I dont actually have anyone else to ask because I spent all my time with 2 professors.. and this is one of them

*cries*

Yeah, I'm dealing with this, too. One of my references was super enthusiastic about sending it... and then nothing. I'm going to email my programs and explain what's going on and ask if I should come up with a second reference. I can, but they're in an artsy department where I did a minor, not my academic major department, so I hesitate sending something from them.

Honestly, though, adcomms should understand that the date that your references arrive isn't in your control. I'm confident that two of my references will come through by the deadline, so it's really just a matter of figuring out what to do about this last one.

yeah i mean at some point its out of your hands... i do hear that if u call and explain your situation theyre lenient on the date that they receive it and give you more time

Oh, of course! Honestly I think sometimes people think adcomms are inhuman monsters with no understanding of real life, but they're human, too! And if they are really going to hold it against you for the letters of recommendation being late (when it's out of your hands)... well, I'm not sure I want to go to that school.

Did it end up working out for you?!  Although I'm almost positive cscas says they'll continue sending letters to the schools after the deadline as long as you had submitted the rest to be verified before the deadline, and I know a lot of schools are more lenient w that if they already received the initial csdcas stuff so if yours is a few days late hopefully it's still ok!!

still havent received it, and its still marked as requested on csdcas.

im not sure how it would work if the deadline it today but they send it in after, will the programs still be able to see them after the deadline? i assume so

Yea csdcas says they'll continue to send in the materials to the schools after the deadline and it's up to the schools to decide whether they'll count it or not!

Did you already send a repeat request through CSDCAS?  I guess all you can do is call your schools on Monday (if that is when they re-open, like mine) and ask them how lenient they are.  I hope it works out for you - I'm still waiting on one of mine too, my deadlines are all on the 15th...

csdcas said that the school will still receive the reference if its submitted late which is good

but its the principle of the matter. it should be taken seriously.
