hopefulspeechie16 Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Did anyone apply to NYU or any other NYC school in general? How are you guys planning to pay for tuition, living expenses etc. once you get accepted? I know living in NYC would be amazing but I'm just worried about how I'll be able to pay for everything if I get accepted.

NYC would be an amazing place to live - but also super expensive. I would have to get some serious funding. Have you looked into the New York DOE grant? Two years of work for the DOE in exchange for a year of graduate funding...
MrsH Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Hi! I live in the NYC area and have the same concerns regarding tuition, but yes, have checked out the DOE scholarship. Other than that, don't really know except hopefully there is a great financial aid package! The best advice I can give about living expenses is find a roommate(s), and in addition to Manhattan, check out Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, north Jersey, etc. Just don't live above a restaurant, ha! My friend did in Astoria, Queens (cute town!) and there were rats and roaches in the apartment good luck!
copaceticbroad Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 (edited) I live here already, and I'm married, so that helps. I either applied for a fellowship or applied to cheaper schools. I can't get the DOE scholarship because I already benefited from a similar program for my first master's degree, but if it's anything like what I did, it's a great deal. As for living arrangements, it's worth pointing out that Brooklyn isn't necessarily cheaper than Manhattan anymore and that the areas along the 1 subway line in the Bronx are fairly safe and affordable (this is more useful for TC than NYU).
