I had a notice from Maryland this week but my application season is over. Maxwell social science had the latest deadline of all my programs, March 1, so I imagine they haven't started reviewing yet.

In the past Berkeleys website has said they only accept students from their own mpp program to do doctoral work.

Ohkay. I got an offer from Maryland a few days back and was hoping to connect with other prospective candidates.

Not quite true... they accept about 2-3 ppl per cohort and 1-2 of them are not from their own mpp program... I mean, I knew my chances were slim.

Did any of you apply to CMU Heinz? I know a lot of the joint-program decisions are out...but I am wondering what's going on for the pubpol phd decisions. Should I be expecting a rejection letter at this point?

I actually received an offer from Berkeley GSPP last week, and I did my MA in another school. I also didn't expect to hear the good news from them (I thought my chances were absolutely 0% and was hesitating to apply until the very last day of application)... anyways really happy with the result!

What is your research interest and what topics do students there usually work on?

My interests are program evaluation/policy analysis for social policies including education, urban, and health. I think a number of current students also work on these fields.

Although I'm guessing that by now all the PhD admissions offers are out and not having been contacted equals a rejection, has anyone heard back from the UT Austin public policy program? The results list shows that some people were rejected earlier on in February, but I haven't received any word, accept/waitlist/reject, from them, and my status is still 'in review'.

PhD in Social Science at Maxwell or Public Policy at Maryland, which is better pick for someone interested in social policy
