sacklunch Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I'm a doctoral student in the humanities. I was recently asked to write a small entry for a large scale encyclopedia from a well-known publisher in my field. While I doubt anything goes for this sort of thing, I also don't think these entries are 'peer reviewed'. It's not terribly long (max of 1k words), but is still a sizable time sink at this stage in my career (I will no doubt do way more research than necessary and so on). Thoughts on this?
rising_star Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Is it a topic you'd already need to do research on as part of the literature review for your dissertation or as part of your comps preparation? If so, then it might make sense to do it. If not, I'd either politely decline or find collaborators with whom you could share the workload.
