Pink Fuzzy Bunny Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 For some of us the waiting for grad school admissions is over (and a lucky few we are!) but now to turn our attention to the next nail-biting moment... when the NSFGRFP recipients are announced. Anyone waiting with me?
og_casper Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) At least this rejection didn't cost $100. Edited March 12, 2016 by og_casper Neist 1

Neist Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Waiting here, too. I might actually have a chance if what was supposed in the NSF thread is true (each year is reviewed independently of each other in each field). I'm crossing my fingers. sierra918 1

I DIDN'T KNOW THIS. THERE IS HOPE FOR ME!!!* *except that I didn't put very much effort into my application. I'm kicking my past self right now...

Pink Fuzzy Bunny Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Just now, Neist said: I know, right?! Although, I admit, I put a lot of effort into mine. About a year, actually. Well crap! I know a lot of people who did that... unfortunately, the professors who promised to proofread my essay waited until LITERALLY the day it was due. And they are 1000 miles away and didn't answer phones/emails for the two months before. So I drove 1000 miles overnight... ...yeah, I'm still bitter about the whole application process. Seriously though, with that much effort going into an application, I really hope you get it!

amwhite Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I wish I had known about the NSF GRFP because I learned about it about 3 weeks before and threw an application together real quick, but if I had more time it could have been a whole lot stronger. But I haven't gotten a rejection yet, so that keeps me going.
shim12 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I've heard that getting GRFP can overturn rejections/waitlists. How true is this?

From what I hear, a lot of schools have policies against this... especially this late in the season, I'm not sure that it would overcome a rejection. But a waitlist... well, it might move you to the top, I'm guessing.
