No News = Horrible News? (subhead: Harvard English)

I hate to repeat a theme that's already been exhausted, but I was wondering if anybody knew anything about Harvard English. It seems that a bunch of people were emailed in late February, but I called the department and they wont' tell me anything except that "letters are being mailed on March 15th" (also, this seems cruel. If they have the information, why not just send it?) Does not having received an email = not getting in?

thanks!

I cant really say for harvard english, but one of the programs i applied to said youd find out by march 15th, and id lost hope by the 8th, but got an email saying i got in on the ninth, so dont count yourself out yet.

I'm in the same boat. Does no e-mail = no acceptance? Does anyone get in via snail mail? My call to the department said that responses will go out "sometime mid-March." ugh.

Don't lose hope - FreakingOut is right!! Every schools is different. Some accept via postal service!

When I called Harvard, they said they aren't done with the decisions yet, and would be sending them out within the next few weeks. I will be REALLY amused if the only school I get into is Harvard, HEHE! My heart is with U of Rochester, and will hopefully hear on Monday whether I got into the PhD or MA program. *crosses fingers*

Every school is different. Many schools hold all of the letters until the end and mail them all at once. In a lot of instances there are funding issues to be worked out after decisions are made.

And yes, people do get in by snail mail. I received my first letter by mail and I'm expecting the remainder of them to arrive the same way.

...leads one to do rather silly things. I wrote to a professor at Harvard telling him that I assumed that I was rejected due to the lateness of their response! I told him that my early e-mail stemmed from the fact that I can still select classes for the spring semester and wanted his opinion on what courses might make me a more attractive candidate for next year.

I'm such a fool!

:?

Oh well, I doubt that such lunacy will significantly affect their decision if they haven't made it.

I can't wait 'till this is over.

I'm actually skeptical about all this hope. A few posters on the wall suggested they got emails in late Feb. And last year's wall postings for Harvard English showed a few emailed acceptances in late February, and a bunch of snail mailed rejections in mid-March. Still, I'm grasping at straws, so if somebody tells me to have faith I will....
