I am still waiting to hear back from my top choice program and I was wondering if I should send my nearly complete project to the major POI at school (rough draft of manuscript not yet submitted plus a link to virtual machine running our software) . This POI told me to keep him appraised during the interview and I sent him a thank you e-mail after the interview. I am exceptionally proud of this project and I am co-first author of the paper. Is it a good idea to send this stuff to him or will I just be seen as a pest.

NO NO NO NO you can't do that.  It's a big deal to share manuscripts that haven't been accepted yet and it's also a big no-no.  Your current PI would more than likely flip their lid about sharing unpublished data/manuscripts with someone who isn't a collaborator.  The review process for manuscripts is extensive and you may not/probably won't get published on the first revision.  The only worse thing you could do would be to send a grant proposal in as well.  There's a huge deal about confidentiality of reviewers so I would avoid that huge problem by just patiently waiting for your notification.

Probably should have clarified this as well. Known collaboration between our lab and theirs (Just not on this prpject) and have spoken to PI about sharing it with him and there is no issue. I will not be sending the manuscript I meant that is where it is at but I can send the link to the running Virtual Machine that gives to access to source code. I realize my original post is a little misleading.

Why not just send a short summary of where the project is and offer to send a link to the Virtual Machine if your POI requests it?
