ClassicConundrum Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I recently got accepted to the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education, University of Maryland's program, and Boston College's Lynch School of Education. I have an interview with Johns Hopkins this week. For secondary ed, UVA and Maryland are both ranked highly for secondary ed, but Johns Hopkins is ranked as the #2 school of education in the country. The programs are pretty much the same in terms of coursework and internships, they're all one year teaching programs. How much does ranking matter? Johns Hopkins has the best name, but should I be concerned of a lack of secondary ed ranking? Thanks in advance!
rising_star Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 What do you plan to do with the master's? If your plan is to actually teach secondary school, I would say that ranking doesn't matter all that much because most HR departments are going to be focused on whether or not you have a master's degree at all. ClassicConundrum Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 Correct, I plan to become a secondary ed teacher. The US News ranking legit, but just not when it comes to my desired profession?
jlt646 Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Unless you are set on teaching in elite private schools, the ranking doesn't matter very much for secondary ed, especially for the schools you've chosen. They are all well-respected with recognizable names. Go to the school with the best fit/funding. ClassicConundrum 1
