readyornot Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Are there any part-time MPA/MPP programs? I am planning on getting one of these degrees, but would like to work full-time while doing it. In fact, given that many people with these degrees don't get super impressive salaries, I'm surprised that more people don't want to work while getting their degree. (I personally plan on focusing on non-profit management, likely in an MPA program.) Does anyone have any insight? Thanks!
riz1 Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 A friend I know has been working for a very large antipoverty agency in the New England area for the past three years, and he's finally gotten to the point where he can go back and get his MPA. However, he needs to take a part-time school option and keep working his job to pay the bills. So he applied and was accepted to the MPA program at the Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University. It will take him a little longer than two years to graduate, but Suffolk's program is good for nonprofits and governance, especially at the local and state levels. Just one option to consider, amongst what I'm sure are many others.

Since the curriculum is VERY non-profit management focused, I think it would be great for you. The only other one that I can think of (off the top of my head) is Georgetown (GPPI), which has an evening program. This one's an MPP program and is more policy-oriented, so I'd recommend the former if you're looking into non-profit management. Best of luck in your search! greendiplomat 1
pea-jay Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Dont forget Baruch College...I visited them and liked what they had to offer. At least half their students are part time.
