phreemorabito@hotmail.com Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 I"m torn between the two programs, I have to decide in a couple of days. I've heard some good things about Brooklyn College, but only by word of mouth. I'm having difficulty finding out any concrete information about what positives Brooklyn College offers besides the obvious like being in Brooklyn and affordable tuition. As for NYSS I feel it's a very specific niche that it appeals to . . . I do feel that I am in that niche but perhaps not where I want to go with my painting.
badlands Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Hi! I was also accepted to Brooklyn College and have found very little information about the program. Could you share what you do know about the program ,even if it is only by word of mouth?
phreemorabito@hotmail.com Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 The one consistent thing people tell me is that the work coming out of there is good. Some people say that its getting competitive to get in but I'm not so sure considering I didn't get in interview before I got accepted.

I dont know a ton about the program, but i have talked to an alum who loved it. She said it was very open and she was able to make the work she wanted. She also felt she had great crits and loved working under Vito Acconci. All in all a great experience, esp with the tuition so low. Are you planning to attend??

I'm considering it because of the tuition and location but still feel unsure about what to expect from the overall program. I think a lot of their current MFA students are making great work. It seems like the only funding is Federal Loans, I haven't heard anything about teaching assistantships or FAFSA.

They only offer federal loans for first year, but your second year there are scholarship and two teaching positions (very competitive). My friend did say she was able to TA quite a bit while in the program, even though she was not awarded one of the teaching positions. I have been looking into outside scholarships. Do some googling, there are tons out there.
meggyc Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Ok so did anybody decide on Brooklyn college? And what were the factors.
Elizard Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Hey! I did! I have sent it my deposit. Honestly, i decided due to the price, and the faculty. They have great professors and every i know who has gone through the program has been extremely satisfied. Plus the work is right up my alley, they are not commercially focused, but very much a fine art program
