Hello, i am from India

I have just 61% aggregate till 6th semester [66.8, 71.3, 62, 57, 60, 45] in electronics & communication from VTU, Karnataka

4 backs all cleared

I am not a bad student, i have 85.23% in 10th and 80% in my 12th (90% aggregate in science subjects)

I will get that aggregate higher in the remaining 2 semesters, but the problem is i should apply to graduate schools with only my scores till 7th semester.

These are my extra curricular activities

1. International conference paper on vlsi and BioMEMS at IASTED BIOMED 2010, Innsbruck, Austria

2. National conference paper on bluetooth technology application, conference was sponsored by ISRO,DRDO, LRDE

3. Received a $400 embedded development kit from microsoft (was one of top 50 people worldwide) for an embedded system competition called SPARK contest

4. Completed 2 courses in nanotechnology via distance education

5. Attended an Indo German workshop on Computational models at IIT Madras

6. Attended a National level pre conference workshop on advanced materials and nanotechnology in P S G College of Technology, coimbatore

7. Attended a National conference on MEMS and Nanotechnology at P S G College of technology

8. Attended a National conference on nanotechnology at Central College, Bangalore

9. Completed a project using MEMS accelerometer (a gesture based computer mouse)

10. Completed 2 projects using ATMEL 8051 microcontroller

11. Completed a project on ECG analysis using QRS complex data on fpga

12. Presently doing a project on low power vlsi using Cadence EDA

I can manage to get a good GRE score, but i am very very very worried about my aggregate, my university topper has 90%

So will i get a seat in a decent university in USA or UK. I just want to give my career a new lease of life

PLEASE HELP ME IN THIS REGARD, PLEASE

You should try to compensate for the GPA (which is OK anyway) by getting good LORs and writing a good SOP. If you can demonstrate that you are a competent student then you should be OK. Also investigate whether your seniors have got into any US universities, as this kind of prior experience is often helpful to the admission committees.

Sir, thankyou for your reply. Since i am from India, our lor will be not that great compared to the foreign applicants, because the way they do their undergraduate study and the amount of out of classroom opportunities available for them is high. In my country except IITs & to some extent NITs only can get good research opportunities in labs and all, so as far as i know i can get LOR from

HOD of Dept of Chemistry [PhD holder]

HOD of Dept of Physics [PhD holder]

HOD of Dept of Electronics & Communication

Two Senior Prof , both PhD holders, under whom i did my projects

(my college is ranked 24th best in the country, but in my 4 years of study i found no research work in the campus)

This is what i can get, and for the SOP ya i will get it reviewed from my seniors who have completed their masters

There are few seniors who are doing their PG studies in USA, but no one had this low a gpa

Im not looking for big universities, for me any university is ok. With this sort of profile can you suggest me at least one safe university

Your Inputs are Very Valuable

Difficult to say for a "safe" university. If you just want to get admitted (and don't care about funding) try some lower "ranked" universities and see what your seniors in the US think.

As for the LORs, you can only go with what you've got :-).

Sir, lower ranked universities means, is it like above 70th rank from the list available at usnews.com .

Are my chances vague, what about UK, Aus.

Sir, getting an admit itself is tough, so i have no options of choosing universities, i am way too low than my competitors, which makes me settle with what ever is available, my goal is a PhD, or another masters from a better university, all i need an admit to a decent university, then improve my grades and goto CNSE Albany, my dream university for NANOTECHNOLOGY and do another Masters or a PhD, so its just tat i need an admit to a decent university that is better than Indian Universities (and most USA universities are better)

My path is clear for me, i know that my future lies in NANOTECHNOLOGY i have slogged innumerable hours to study this grand field of promising hope for the future of technology development & its a convergence of all fields. So all i need to do is graduate from unv with a good gpa and get few publications.

Its like when amplitude of signal is attenuated and degraded, all it needs is a filter and amplifier that can regenerate the signal back to its form, and thats what i am looking for. My life is dedicated to research

The above words may sound too crazy, but thats me and my plan for the future

well if you dont care about funding and want to raise your gpa and a few pub.s, you might give europe a try. you might apply to univ.s like epfl, kth, tu munich or aachen maybe or you may look at italy and spain(i dont know exact university names but i've heard of a plenty of good uni.s there). i know epfl is very reputative in nanotech, but you know these do not get phd app.s

maybe you can apply them for masters and raise your gpa etc. there and apply back to US for phd.

best of luck in your app.s!
