abbielizx3 Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I just received a call from a University (Not going to specify) and they offered me acceptance. I was initally rejected from the program and not put on a waitlist at any point. Another thing about it is that it was from a cell phone and not an office number and I didn't get a name told to me. I'm just super wary because I've never heard of this happening before and don't want to be excited for nothing. Has anyone heard of this / had this happening?
fuzzylogician Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Instead of getting all suspicious, why don't you call the office back, say you spoke to someone about a possible acceptance but didn't catch their name, and say you were wondering if you could be put in touch with them again because you have a few more questions. That should tell you if it's a (very weird) scam or for real. If you get a person on the line, ask questions about a stipend, required courses, or anything else that comes to mind. I'd say this isn't exactly common but probably isn't unheard of. And speaking to university profs (less so, admins) on their private cell phones about official university business is definitely something that's happened to me. thespeechblog.com and mbf 2

I agree, I've used quite a few cell phones of different admissions counselors at different universities. I think it's slightly bizarre just to be pulled off a rejection list, and don't want to get excited over nothing, but they said I should receive an email tomorrow. I called the department and was told the person that would call me would be a man with a heavy accent (it was) but when connected to his office he wasn't there. Thank you for your help/suggestion. I'm just in a state of shock, and it just almost seems too good to be true. But my gut tells me it's real, and I wouldn't have questioned it until my parents put the idea it might not be real in my head.
jmk Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Congrats! I could definitely see how one could be a bit skeptical until they had their offer of admission in writing. Do you know if the university has a wait list? Maybe they had an unofficial wait list you were on. Fingers crossed that everything works out for you!

Congratulations! but 2. This legitimately sounds like the start of a spy thriller. The only reason that this would never work is that who needs speech therapy to rescue the world from geopolitical disaster? abbielizx3 and talkingcake 2
