Ouch. Columbia's rejection letter hit me hard too. Congratulations to anyone who got accepted and to everyone else, I"ll be drinking alone and raising a glass to the rest of you.

Having some wine at home with my wife. At least I got the official yes from Iowa today and I don't think I'm dead quite yet at NYU.

Cheers to my fallen brethren.

Caught a Double Reggie off Columbia and UCSD today too. Cheers, y'all!

I did get into the Brandeis PhD program with funding though and am quite excited about it. Very nice fellowship and good faculty there. Looks quite likely that that's where I am headed this Fall. Good luck to everyone still waiting it out.

"Fallen Brethren" - sounds like a good name for a composers collective...maybe we could all put on concerts with each others' music at our respective schools... :)

Hi tbone,

First of all congratulations Brandeis is a very good school, that is why I have applied there as well. If you don't mind me asking, in what way did they contact you and when? Do you know anything about how many places are they funding or even accepting?

Cheers

In at USC and UT Austin -- Historical Musicology. Will most likely turn down Austin, but still weighing my options.

Hi Composser,

Thanks a lot. Yes, I'm very excited about it.

In doing research recently, I've noticed that Brandeis PhD grads in both composition and musicology are on faculties all around the country. I've also been told by current students that the comp faculty makes a good effort to keep the academic and teaching loads small so that most effort is put into writing music. That's what I need! Anyhow...

The original contact was an informal email in the middle of February letting me know I would be receiving a letter soon with an official offer. I received the letter just a few days ago. I have no information about how many they are taking, but I know in the past they have usually taken 2 PhDs in comp and some master's students as well (maybe 2 or 3?). The PhDs are fully funded, the master's students usually get some type of tuition scholarship (1/2?) but not a stipend.

I hope that helps.

Hi tbone,

Yes thank you, it clarified some things. So I am presuming that all accepted students have been contacted.

Who knows I might have a chance at the waitlist... but the 1/2 funding is a big downer. Especially because I am applying for the M.F.A which means that I would continue to Ph.D anyways in Brandeis. Oh well, I'll wait and see...

JenE, when did you hear back from UT Austin? Did they send you an email? I'm still waiting...

I got my official letter on Friday, March 5th. Got an email from the dept. the following week with the assistantship offer. Will probably go for a visit early April, but am still undecided.

Thanks Composser... good luck to you too. Any idea about the change to email? Their website says only postal, and is pretty explicit about no other method.

Anyone heard from Michigan? I had a contact last week tell me he would send me a decision by Friday, but nada. It's coming down to the end and I really need to make travel arrangements...

Perhaps... but I called in the department today and they told me that. I wonder if they already made any offers, I feel like they did. So I am not expecting too much (... but hopefully I am wrong)

I spoke with Stony Brook a few weeks ago - they said by the end of this week. A new waiting list addition in the result search.

I spoke with Temple Admissions today, who said they have a meeting with the composition faculty Wednesday and would hopefully glean admissions decisions from them then.

I got admitted to NYU Steinhardt MM in Theory and Composition.

They want me to pay them a partial non-refundable tuition deposit if I accept the offer by April 15th.

I called Steinhardt financial aid office and they told me that I won't know of my financial aid award until June because they start processing those things in May. I did my FAFSA in January.

How am I supposed to make my decision??? Did anyone else get into Steinhardt and waiting for the financial aid award letter?

FYI, I got rejected from:

UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Columbia, USC, Indiana,

I'm on waiting list for Mills. (master's in composition)

How am I supposed to make my decision when the cost of tuition is a large part of my concern??? Did anyone else get into Steinhardt and waiting for the financial aid award letter?

Youch - no financial info till then? Is this true of all of Steinhardt's grad programs? I'm trying to figure out who exactly I would even call to find out about this (I got an offer and am trying to figure out if I can possibly afford it)

What a day... no from Stony Brook and NYU GSAS. Here's to a better day tomorrow.

I feel your pain...

Weren't we supposed to hear from Temple by Wednesday?
