TheMostPowerfulApplicant Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Hi all, I've been accepted to both UIUC's MCS program and Georgia Tech's OMSCS program for Spring 2017. I consider acceptance to both a miracle considering that I did my undergrad in EE with only 1 intro to CS class (but now with 2 years of work experience). Both are distance online and I hope to continue to work and do grad school at the same. I'm wondering what you guys think about both programs? Which one is better in your eye? Here the catch: the UIUC program is around 30k total while Georgia Tech is 7k total... so I'm leaning heavily towards Georgia Tech. Thanks!
mynamjef Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 hey, did you end up accepting either? I'm in a similar boat, applied to UIUC and am waiting for my result, and if it's a reject then I'm going for Georgia Tech OMSCS. Also working in tech as a developer so it's nice to see someone else identify the same two schools as I did.
TheMostPowerfulApplicant Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 I'm taking my first OMSCS class now (machine learning for trading). Super chill. In retrospect, I actually really feel that OMSCS is very well thought out, and UIUC's online platform likely much less thought out. Plus OMSCS costs so little and it's reputation is similar to that of UIUC. I would highly recommend OMSCS mynamjef 1
mynamjef Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 very cool I just got my dream admit to UIUC's MCS yesterday, very excited! Your case for GA Tech is very logical, and my choice to not even apply to OMSCS defies all logic but for me it's a personal thing to get that UIUC degree Best of luck to you!
