  1. UIUC is a great school, but not as reputable as Stanford. Also the weather and quality of life at UIUC is much worse. Go with Stanford and try to get funding afterwards
  2. When you say "intern", do you mean a summer internship at a company or being a research assistant? Honestly, CMU and UCSD are both on par for EE. I would assume that CMU SV has way less class options and cost more.
  3. congrats! why not apply to Caltech, Berkeley, or CMU SV if u applied to Stanford? Which one you going?
  4. why do you want research opportunities? isn't a ms just classes?
  5. 2 years on, I have to say that I am glad it didn't work out :).
  6. Sounds like the only thing going for VT is a specific advisor. Everything else is heavily in favor of Stanford. Stanford is the obvious choice and will open many doors.
  7. I would pick UIUC because they have strong computer science and engineering. Plus it is much cheaper.
  8. If both programs are the same cost, i would cost CMU because it has a much better ECE Program. It doesn't really matter that it starts in Spring
  9. Dont come to Cambridge, it is super cold and drivers are terrible. Stick with West Coast!
  10. Both are equal in terms of helping you reach your potential. Go with Stanford for the better weather and options to pivot to Tech if you realize that academia is not for you.
  11. CMU offers so many different and specialized masters programs... its kind of overkill
  12. Name brand of grad school is most important if you went to a weak undergrad institution.
  13. Here is the deal, MEM degrees (and their many cousins like ETIM) are very new degrees that companies in industry don't really know what to make of them. Especially without any work experience, your MEM degree isn't really going to get you any different job coming out of graduation because a company isnt gonna take the risk of giving a higher level position. An MS in ME degree is much more understood and thats what I think is the main advantage of CMU option
  14. UIUC is the most reputable, but also the most miserable. Their PhD program is notoriously rigorous and the city is extremely boring.
  15. Data science is a great field. Hope you'll make lots of $$$ later!
  16. UIUC requires 2 years and a thesis. I would choose UCLA for the weather
  17. Yes, pick cornell tech. I wish that I had applied to Cornell Tech when I was considering Grad school. They have an amazing hands on curricula and the 1 year for a MEng is a great value. Also nobody in industry distinguishes between a MEng vs MS. Also Cornell has much better name in CS than NYU.
  18. you realize that Caltech is tiny right? Its about quality not quantity
