Ohio State does this. They have a recruitment weekend in mid-February where accepted applicants come meet the faculty, tour the labs, etc. That's the only one I know.

I realize this doesn't help you since you didn't apply there, but maybe it will help someone else. Congrats on Harvard!

Who are you interested in working with at A&M?

socialpsych, did you have better luck with acceptances to business programs or social psych programs?

You mean, in general, or receiving offers without interview?

I am fairly sure I did better with business programs overall (I withdrew a bunch of applications so I'm not totally sure).

Of the three offers I got with no interview, one was psych and two were business.

I guess overall...I was just wondering, I'm starting to feel like my chances at psych programs aren't as good as the business schools, and I was curious what your experience was. So what you said makes me feel a little better (more optimistic) :)

Gah...I just survived my Wayne State interview. I was 10' late. Wondering if that was all right?

Eastwick/Rholes. You?

The same, but probably Rholes more than Eastwick since Eastwick wasn't sure about taking students when I talked to him.

Sandra Murray and Mark Seery. I'm not hearing anything from Sandra, but Mark is "very" interested. He's calling me tomorrow for our phone interview. He sounds like an awesome guy! Who did you apply for?

Also, updates: U Missouri is flying me out to Columbia, partially funded, and Wayne State wants to have a Skype video chat :D Anyone else had a video interview? I read somewhere that someone did...

I had a skype interview last year. I am now a happy student working for/with that professor (I rejected an offer from a higher ranked school because this person felt "right" for me). In fact, we talked over skype thrice. We discussed one of his papers, he wanted to know what I made of it (basically to test what I understood of the plots, etc. He would send in the paper just a few mins before the interview :P). So yea, skype interviews are fun. Good luck!

Yeah, he told me the same and I know Rholes is for sure taking someone. Well here's hoping there is indeed more than one spot between the two of them! ;)

I really hope so. I'm already anxious enough thanks to my GPA. lol

Ditto. I'm hoping my LORs paired with having made wise choices based on fit/previous research experience will land me somewhere, because my GPA isn't gonna to do it!

Just as a side note. When I was talking to the A&M grad coordinator I told her about my low GPA and that it was my freshman year that really messed me up. Well I asked her if this would hurt me and she chuckled and said that I am not the only person that had this problem and that is why they focus on the last 60 hours.

hah i love how you put canada in brakcets!

Haha. Yeah, it seems to me (and this is merely anecdotal of course) that quite a few people I know haven't heard of Canadian schools or didn't bother to look up there. That surprises me especially because UW is such a strong program these days with several famous researchers!

Ooh, I forgot they ask for this! I was so happy to see that spot on the app. Add me to the bajillion other casualties of freshman year <_<

Yeah I am pretty anxious thanks to my GPA. Even more so since it was actually at A&M where I shot myself in the foot... :(

When I emailed Sandra Murray to see if she was accepting students, she said she was not so I did not apply.

So far I have had an interview at Purdue with Ximena Arriaga, a phone interview with Edward Lemay at University of New Hampshire, and invited to interview weekend at FSU with Jon Maner

Me too! *LOVED* her.

When did you email Sandra Murray? I contacted her in August and she said she wasn't sure, so I'm assuming it was after that. Guess Buffalo will be sending me a rejection letter any day now. Boo.

So you folks had an interview at Purdue? Darn. When was this?

Applying: Purdue, Tulane, UCSB, Kansas, Waterloo, Depaul, Minnesota, UCSC, WUSTL

No worries, it was an informal thing following some email exchanges (that I initiated, not them) and a phone call. It wasn't the official interview weekend. I don't think all the professors do things that way so I'm sure you still have a very good chance.

December, btw, before applications were due.

I actually had a phone interview with Dr. Arriaga in October and went ahead and had an on-campus visit November 6...

To the person who heard from Purdue- would you mind sharing your POI? I applied there also but have not heard anything. Thanks!

Dr. Arriaga. But she said official calls for interview weekend invitations will be made Monday or Tuesday by the grad coordinator (she likely only called me directly because I've met with her in person). Nine people will be invited for interviews for the weekend of Feb 11-13. Good luck to you; hope you hear something next week!
