Leo168 Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 (edited) Hey everyone, Perhaps too specific of a question, but I was curious if anyone knows of any MFA programs containing faculty that flirt with ideas of nature/culture and humanity's relationship to wilderness. I have done quite a bit of sleuthing with little results and thought It couldn't hurt to cast a line out here as well. Thanks for any leads and I hope the application process is treating you well! It's currently driving me crazy... XD Edit* I should add that I'm currently in the process of applying to ASU, OSU, UO, PennDesign, and potentially UCLA? (Not all for the reason above.) sylviecerise Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Zachary Cahill from the University of Chicago makes some work that is sort of related to those concepts—I know he taught a class on landscape when I was an undergrad. He was recently appointed as curator for an arts center within the University, so not 100% sure how much he'll be teaching anymore. Leo168 1
Concordia Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Perhaps there are Canadian scholars in that field. Glenn Gould once did a radio program on "The Idea of North." Leo168 1
Leo168 Posted December 11, 2016 Author Posted December 11, 2016 Thank you both for chiming in! I will look into both suggestions. XD Anyone else?
tugbamina_871 Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 I see that your discipline is Photography. Dawid Petros (the idea of north) may be of interest, although not too directly. I would also check out MassArt's faculty. Anna Collette and Barbara Bosworth. Leo168 1
Elefarif Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Not specifically profs, but programs - both Low-Res - that may or may not be of interest. I don't have any info other than links to websites though. http://site.sierranevada.edu/mfa-interdisciplinary-arts/ http://www.nomad9mfa.org Leo168 1
Leo168 Posted December 12, 2016 Author Posted December 12, 2016 Elefarif, both of those programs seem incredible! Thanks for sharing. I don't think that a low-res option is right for me at the moment, so I won't be applying, but happy to have perused those links nonetheless.
turnip Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Nice to read along! I have similar interests, and also driving myself wild trying to curate my apply to list. Is ten too many?
Leo168 Posted December 16, 2016 Author Posted December 16, 2016 In terms of how many, really up to you. If you can afford it, I can only imagine more applications being a positive thing. Assuming that quality of app. isn't lowered because you are focusing on a greater amount. :]

Leo168 Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 No worries. Thanks so much. I think New Mexico had something as well--I didn't end up applying though. Thanks for the suggestion!
