Does anyone know if some applicants to the Ph.D. program are denied admission to the Ph.D. track but offered admission to the terminal M.A. program? (even though they didn't apply). See what the decision is. If it's a complete reject and you still want to go to Yale, it doesn't hurt to ask to be considered for the MA. It's a cash-cow thing that if you were qualified for the PhD to begin with but just didn't make the cut, then they'll take you on the MA... easily, I think.
