prospectivegrad1 Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Hi all, In what situations would it be appropriate to ask for an extra lodging night? In my case, a recruitment weekend ends at 6PM on Tuesday but going on a return flight after 6PM would mean that I arrive at home past midnight, which I ideally do not want because I have another interview the day after. Would it be appropriate to ask to stay in the hotel for an extra night, just so I can catch a flight early in the morning the next day?
jmillar Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I was able to get an extra night, but mostly because there were no early enough flights to get me there before check ins in the afternoon, so I'm coming over a day early. You may want to e-mail and ask if it is possible.
TakeruK Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 My opinion is that it's entirely appropriate to ask politely (choose your words carefully so it neither sounds like a demand nor that you expect them to say yes). If you ask politely, providing the justification you wrote here, the worst thing that could happen is that they decline politely. I imagine that you won't be the only one to ask, because events ending at 6pm means you are looking at flights leaving at 8pm or later (and 8pm is optimistic assuming that the airport is like, right there). I would imagine a lot of people are flying home to places that won't have a flight leaving that evening at 8pm or later (e.g. if they don't live in a hub city, it's unlikely they will be able to get home that night).
prospectivegrad1 Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 Thanks guys! I will draft a nice email and send it out today :)
