ugggggh Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Hello! I'm wondering if anyone has insight into the foreign language requirements of Education PhDs. My friend applied to 5 this year and all required foreign languages, but I couldn't find any mention of them for the eight to which I applied. I'm wondering if they're generally more or less common than in other fields? (I'm also just obsessing over details as I wait for notifications...)
hopefulPhD2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I applied to more than 5 and I saw no mention in any of them about foreign language requirements. Hmmm...
istanbulnotconstantinople Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I didn't see any. The only mention I saw was regarding a PhD in comparative education, but even then the school in question said that many students do speak more than one language but that it was only really a necessity to speak the languages in the regions you wanted to look at. So if, for instance you were looking at the UK and US it wouldn't matter if you only spoke English.
