I got an email today from CIHR doctoral saying that I have been withdrawn from that competition because I won a CIHR Vanier - but still haven't heard anything from Vanier. UBC grad studies has heard nothing yet about CIHR Vanier awards. The contact person for CIHR Vanier is Sammy Nag (613 948 8200), but I can't reach him by phone. Hopefully there will be a letter in the mailbox when I get home, I don't want to pop the cork on the champagne bottle just yet.

I heared first from university and then official letter was delivered. hope the best for all

Conclusion from all of this... completely random, or at least, depends on the school/department. The only thing you can do is just wait, I guess. Argh!

I got my results.... finally! I am in CIHR. Apparently all university's are being notified of the results, so if you haven't gotten the letter yet maybe you should call the award office.

So has anyone heard from Vanier SSHRC yet? I just received this e-mail from the awards office at U of T:

Hello Ryan,

I just spoke with SSHRC and they are slightly delayed on sending out some of the results; they expect to send them all by today or tomorrow.

It's a bit cryptic, but it seems some or all of our letters have not even been mailed yet.

Last post from me: SSHRC Vanier has made its decisions and has notified university awards offices. U of T awards office e-mailed the results to my department, which called me with the news (application was successful!). They just put individual letters (acceptance and rejection) in snail mail today, so everyone should get them next week. But if you can't wait anymore, I'd contact your university. Best of luck to everyone!

Okay, I'm a current PhD student and applied to SSHRC. I heard back from them confirming that they received my application. But I never heard anything about whether my application was forwarded to Vanier. Does this mean I'm only being considered for SSHRC and not SSHRC Vanier? I found their application process to be quite confusing. Thanks!

The Vanier scholarship application was separate from the PGS applications. If you did not apply separately to the Vanier scholarship, you would not be automatically considered for it like last year's applicants were. It sounds like you are only being considered for the SSHRC PGS/CGS scholarships and not the Vanier but I don't know if you applied separately to Vanier. My university notified me of being forwarded to the national vanier competition.

So does the university know the results of vanier ahead of us, like the PGS?

I received my Vanier SSHRC letter today through regular mail (dated April 5th) - successful. The department still had not heard anything, so it seems as if the students are the first to find out at my university.
