I am currently in an MPA program at virginia commonwealth university (Nationally Ranked 57th)

I am applying to teh MPA program at NYU for Fall 2010 (Nationally Ranked 10th)

My UGPA: 3.3 with my major GPA 3.5, I have tons of volunteer and activism experience.

I have 1 year of working w/ a gov't agency.

I plan to specialize in Policy Analysis.

What do you think my chances are? Any Advice? Should I take the GRE? If so, what am I shooting for?

please help!

Thank you

Are you planning to transfer from a MPA program or similar at VCU? Or will you have a degree from another graduate program by the fall? If the latter, how is that degree related to your reasons for wanting to attend NYU, if at all?

I'm assuming that you are applying by the June 1st deadline. If you have not already applied, then I would strongly consider taking the GRE or GMAT (since NYU strongly recommends it) if you have time to prepare and do well. It could potentially strengthen your application.

I hope that helps some...clarifying some details of your plan of action and background might get you more responses from other posters.

I actually think Wagner will be more interested in your graduate GPA since it is the same program you are applying to.

As far as your reasons for switching schools, I am sure you know you will need to explain why NYU is better for you than the school you are currently at. And it must go a lot deeper than ranking.

I second that. I have previous (incomplete) grad experience that was relevant but I dedicated a small portion of the SOP explaining why I am looking at their school instead of my previous one.
