_sawyer_ Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I see everyone talking about being in contact with professors, emailing them as potential advisers, ect. and I was wondering if that is only recommended for PhD candidates? Should masters students do this too? Also what does POI stand for? thanks
0 OhSoSolipsistic Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 You can get in contact with them, but it's not necessary. When I was looking into my masters program, I contacted a prof and visited him on campus. It's less of a concern for most masters/advisor relationships because many students don't know who their advisor would be for their thesis yet, and some masters programs don't even have a thesis requirement. But, if you have specific questions for a potential advisor, go ahead and contact them. POI stands for person of interest or professor of interest - basically a prof you're interested in working with.
