clim8phd Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Has anyone else applied to MIT's Technology Policy Program? The admissions committee is meeting now until late February when final selections will be made. Notifications should come in late Feb/Early March. http://tppserver.mit.edu/
noojens Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I applied for TPP SM and ESD PhD, but I haven't heard back. We shall see... good luck =)
clim8phd Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 I applied for TPP SM and ESD PhD, but I haven't heard back. We shall see... good luck =) Notifications will probably come soon because the TPP Open House for admitted students is Monday, March 15, 2010.... so we should be hearing this month or early march at the latest. Did you submit two applications to ESD or did you declare for S.M. with Ph.D. as the final degree objective? I think there are two separate committees for the S.M. and Ph.D.
noojens Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Just one app, to ESD PhD with a TPP SM en route. Honestly, I wrote a kind of goofy SoP for that program, so I won't be surprised if I get rejected. Well, and it's MIT Where else did you apply? What issues are you interested in?

Honestly, I wrote a kind of goofy SoP for that program, so I won't be surprised if I get rejected. Well, and it's MIT Where else did you apply? What issues are you interested in? Yeah, for sure. I don't think there is a magic formula for MIT. I also applied to the Berkeley's Energy and Resources group (haven't heard anything yet). I was admitted to Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and interviewing at UCLA next week ! All with a focus on energy issues and environmental policy. Good luck!!!! have you heard anything from the other programs ??
s1u8n Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I applied to the structural engineering sm, if I get admitted I will shit my pants and tell everyone about it!
noojens Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 haha, s1u8n... clim8phd- I talked to the ERG admissions assistant two weeks ago and she said they'll start sending out notifications sometime in early to mid-February, so we should know "soon" I heard back from CMU's Engineering and Public Policy program yesterday... I got in! No funding info yet, but they invited me to come visit. Yay! Congrats on Columbia!

CMU is a great place... and now the tension builds. . . because it's already early February !!! It feels much better, having some other quality options in play while waiting on MIT, doesn't it? I wonder if most of MIT's TPP students are funded ? It seems like this is the case, because everyone does research.

I visited them last November, the people there told me that eventually, everyone will get funded through RA/TA position. But this might not be immediate. Edited February 10, 2010 by iwotic
iwotic Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 (edited) Sorry duplicate post Edited February 10, 2010 by iwotic
clim8phd Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 Thanks for this information regarding RA/TA positions. I guess it sounds like TPP students may have to hustle to find their own TA/RA positions.
iwotic Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Anyone here heard back from them yet? I saw 1 acceptance in the "Results Search".
clim8phd Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 Anyone here heard back from them yet? I saw 1 acceptance in the "Results Search". Wow, results must be coming soon. Nothing here yet.
clim8phd Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 February is almost over. Notifications seem awfully late, considering this information: The TPP Open House for admitted students will be held in our TPP offices on Monday, March 15, 2010. More information will be posted on our website in February.
iwotic Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Last weekday of February.. still no result coming?
clim8phd Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 Last weekday of February.. still no result coming? Needless to say for MIT, considering a $2 billion shrinking endowment, furloughs and budget cuts, labor productivity in the admissions process is not something we should expect.
cadaujac Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Anyone here heard back from them yet? I saw 1 acceptance in the "Results Search". I saw in the "Result Search" that an other acceptance has been delivered the 26th.............................................. As for me, I did not recieve anything for now. ;-(
cadaujac Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Am I the only one wondering why admission results take so much time to come ? Or perhaps others already have your ansewer...
clim8phd Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Am I the only one wondering why admission results take so much time to come ? Or perhaps others already have your ansewer... No answer either cadaujac, the post from the 26th is from an internal MIT candidate. The response time for the rest of us is unusually long.
iwotic Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 My friend emailed them to ask about this. They said that they are "trying" to get the result out by the end of this week.
cadaujac Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I go the same answer from Ed Ballo : "We are trying to get the rest of our notices out by the end of this week. Thank you for your patience." Wonder what took them so long.
dcook Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I go the same answer from Ed Ballo : "We are trying to get the rest of our notices out by the end of this week. Thank you for your patience." Wonder what took them so long. I've been waiting to hear back from MIT. After seeing all the qualifications that everyone on this board has that clearly stand out better than mine, and the above quote - I suddenly feel a lot less hopeful about this week.
