joannly Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Hello all, I'm trying to wrangle together all the parts I'll need to apply for Fall 2018! I've been trying to find out where to send letters of recommendation for the Cal States. I noticed that on CSUMentor, it says you should mail the letters to the department coordinator for CSU Fullerton. Would that be Ying-Chiao Tsao? And do I just put the address of the university on there? Also, is it the same for CSULB and SDSU?
Elska Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 (edited) I can only speak for Fullerton and Long Beach, but you send letters to Fullerton through CSDCAS and Long Beach doesn't require letters. Edited March 17, 2017 by Elska
californiaspeechie Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 SDSU has their own separate application (not CSDCAS) called Decision Desk that you will use to submit all your supplemental materials (statement of purpose, rec letters, etc). You'll also submit the CSUmentor for SDSU but everything else will be through decision desk
joannly Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 Thank you all for your helpful replies! I'm a bit miffed about having to use CSDCAS for just one school (CSUF), but I suppose it can't be helped.
californiaspeechie Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I agree it's definitely strange, so it's smart to get everything figured out early to make sure you don't miss anything!! When I was applying to post baccs a few years ago I never heard back from CSULA (which was fine because Chapman was higher on my list and I ended up there) but I realized later I never submitted their supplemental app.. totally didn't know that it was required at the time haha. So it's good to double check everything!
joannly Posted April 6, 2017 Author Posted April 6, 2017 Hi! Follow up question! The cal states require three letters of recommendation, correct?

It depends on the school. SDSU required three, SFSU required two but you could submit more, etc. I do think it is generally three, though. Have at least three recommenders on hand, and some backup recommenders in mind too just in case one of the three is unable to complete a letter. Edited April 6, 2017 by pbandj

Adding on, Fullerton requires three, and confirming again that Long Beach requires none.
