  1. For CSULB, there is only one interview on March 23rd. There are different time assignments for that day, but invitations have all been sent out. If you have not received an interview email, then that's likely the end of it.
  2. The program is well-balanced; I would say it's roughly half and half CSULB undergrads and half from other schools. The program is challenging at times, but definitely will prepare you well! I was told interview offers will go out Friday afternoon, no word about rejections. From what I remember last year though, they don't send out rejections until everything is all done and all have been accepted. They do group interviews! I would say just be relaxed and sociable. They're looking for people who are collaborative and personable along with good stats.
  3. Hi! I'm a 2nd semester grad student at CSULB and they are going to be sending out interview emails this Friday afternoon. Interview is set to be March 23rd. There was an administrative delay this year, according to a professor.
  4. Hi! I went to Loma Linda for undergraduate and can say it's a great program. I believe you are done with the program in three years if you are interested in their Transitional Master's program. That being said, it is much pricier than other schools. I'm going to CSULB for my master's now and my total cost of attendance is a third of what it cost me to go to Loma Linda. Since prestige and all that doesn't really matter in our field, I would highly advise just seeking out the cheapest option that you have available. Apply everywhere, but I think cost is the highest priority when making choices between schools.
  5. Most programs I applied to only required two professors. If you believe that your supervisor can give the best recommendation from any other options, you should definitely get one from them!
  6. The average age of people in my undergrad range from 20-22 between the juniors and seniors. With the TMs, the ages can vary greatly! There are people who have just finished a non-CMSD major (21/22) or people who have decided to pursue speech from a different profession. I've seen people from anywhere between their 20s to late 30s.
  7. I currently attend Loma Linda and I do have to say that the program is very supportive, very organized. As a TM you would finish in three years. The university itself is not forcefully religious, as snoves mentioned, but you may have to attend chapel during your first year. There are religious services that are mandatory if you have class before 3PM on a Wednesday, which may be possible your first year, but almost guaranteed to not occur your second and third year since you will be taking the graduate courses which mostly occur in the evenings. There are also spiritual emphasis weeks on the third week of every quarter where you are asked to go to chapel if you have class before 3PM on Monday-Thursday. You are allowed to skip chapel twice per quarter though, so you could apply those during those weeks. I'm not seventh-day adventist myself, but I enjoyed my undergrad here. The chapel services are a great time to catch up on homework (they're very lenient on whether you actually listen or not), and there are no classes or clinics held on Fridays because they observe the Sabbath. You essentially get a three-day weekend every week.
  8. I'm not sure what the waiting period is going to be like, my friend was also waitlisted. But they did tell her that they were going to do another admission process that involves another review because there is no priority order for the waitlist at the moment. This may mean another interview, another application, or just even them looking over your application one more time. I'm thinking it'll probably be them reviewing your app one more time and then ordering everyone.
  9. Hi! I already posted this on the SLP Grad School subreddit, but it seems like there are more people who know about the schools here. I'm looking for how people like CSULB and CSUF's programs. What is clinic really like? When are classes usually held (evening, afternoon, mornings)? What are the biggest complaints and delights? If anyone has any information or input, I would love to know
  10. I would call their department and make an inquiry if you want a definitive answer. Acceptance letters did go out and I heard that they are in the process of doing a second review period for those who are waitlisted. Those who were waitlisted were also emailed too!
  11. Wow, that's horrible. I guess I'll just give them a call once I've seen a few people have been accepted and if I haven't heard anything...
  12. I get that the department doesn't notify you if you're rejected, but will it show on the student portal if you've been rejected?
  13. I got an invitation to interview this Saturday as well! I'll be actually out of the country this weekend, so I'm hoping they'll be able to provide a different interview date... They likely didn't email back because today was a holiday. Hopefully they'll see our emails tomorrow and reply then!
  14. Hi all! I talked to the advisor at Loma Linda today and she said that interview emails will be going out tomorrow!
  15. I'm applying to SDSU and CSUF and I've heard multiple opinions on where to send transcripts and how many we're supposed to send. Can someone confirm any of these: 1. Send them to the department only 2. Send them to CSDCAS only 3. Send them to CSDCAS and the department 4. Send them to the university's general admission office and the department 5. Send them to CSDCAS, the department, and the university's general admission office.
  16. I'm a first-time applicant applying to SDSU, CSUF, CSULB, UW-Seattle, and Loma Linda. I'm from California, and definitely would want to stay there. I think the thing I'm most scared of for applications is the thought that I may not have completed them thoroughly enough and I get rejected based on a technicality or something not to do with actual consideration of my application.
  17. Hi! I currently go to a 'faith-based' institution. There definitely isn't any difference in the curriculum, but it does make a difference in admissions. They like for their applicants to be religious because that's something that they highly value in a prospective student there. I have heard of a few applicants getting rejected last application cycle when they admitted that they were not religious. Whether that was why they were rejected or not, we can't really say for sure though.
  18. I'm a little confused as to what to put for the Cal State Apply when the schools I'm applying to have either a supplementary/department application (CSULB) or CSDCAS (CSUF and SDSU). I have specific personal statements for each school, so am I supposed to only put a general personal statement in the Cal State Apply form? Do they look at that one?
  19. Hi Med Speechie! I would advise that you take it in mid-October and do a crash course with Magoosh! Magoosh offers this deal I've seen that offers a refund if you don't improve 5 points from your first test, so it's a good guarantee and gives you a month to study with enough time to send in your results. Time is really of the essence with these applications, and you want them in and done as soon as possible. Your application being at the top of the pile could really help your chances versus being towards the end.
  20. Hi guys! I took my first GRE exam with very little preparation and got 156 (verbal) and 154 (quantitative). The essay score is still pending. I was disappointed by my math score since I wasn't able to answer four math questions towards the end, and felt like my quantitative could be higher by at least two points. I was wondering if I should take the Magoosh prep course guarantee and then retake the GRE once more to boost my score by 5 points? Or, am I being an overachiever and are those scores just something that grad schools use to filter out applicants? I'm applying to mostly California schools, so I know it can get competitive...
  21. I know that my school, Loma Linda University offers a clinical doctorate program, and I believe that it was online... At least I remember the professor in charge of it telling me it was all online and designed to fit around current professionals daily rigor of career. It is designed to be taken at whatever pace you can manage. Here's the website info as well as the contact info for more information: http://alliedhealth.llu.edu/academics/communication-sciences-and-disorders-cmsd/degree-options/speech-language-pathology
