Emoree Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Those are the schools I applied to (for painting/printmaking) and I haven't heard anything. I know it's super early, and I literally applied on the deadlines, but I'm wondering if anyone applied early and had heard? Thanks!
jon cocktoe Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 I applied to the studio art program at UMass in mid January, but since the deadline wasn't until Feb 1, I don't think we'll be hearing anything soon. On the application status page, it says it usually takes 6 to 10 weeks for departments to make their decisions, which puts the notification date anywhere between mid March and mid April. It's anyone's guess when the art department will make their decision.
james Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Hey gang, got my undergrad at UMass Amherst, could tell you a lot about it, ask whatever you please. When I was there the program was in sorta a transition, they were letting buildings die (literally, two were condemed during my time and a third burned to the ground!) in anticipation of the new Fine Arts building, which I have seen and is pretty spectacular. Also it consolidated all the crap that used to be sprinkled throughout the campus. Faculty was hit or miss, but there is enough that your likely to find folks you identify with. I stuck close to Trevor Richardson and Richard Yarde. Yarde is just a fantastic human being but I heard he is retiring after this year. Trevor is a character, sorta a tight ass and holds folks to a high standard but if your willing to work you will see dramatic improvement under him. If your not he will be very dismissive of you. Hanlon Davies is great too. New faculty was coming in as I was leaving so cannot comment on them. The place is problem filled but I wouldnt trade my time there for the world. Ask me anything, Id love to share.
