There's a lot of chatter on the Results page about 'application status' changing, to 'under review' or 'decision made' or whatever. All of mine still only say 'submitted'. I feel like I'm missing out on something! As far as my apps are concerned, we might as well be in January...:(

Anyone else not receiving any love from their universities? And has anyone caved in to the urge to call and ask WHEN decisions will be made?

All of mine say "submitted" as well. I check every day (okay, maybe a few times every day...) to see if there's a change, but nothing.

I'm assuming (read: hoping) it just depends on where you've applied and that some schools will never switch from "submitted".

Kam, ditto to the "submitted" status.

Some of mine say "submitted" and some say "under review." I contacted the schools that still say "submitted", and I am under review there as well; they just don't update the status.

I wouldn't worry!

I've only heard from 1 out of the 11 schools that I applied to so far. I wouldn't worry about it--many of my apps still say "submitted" as well. I think at most schools they will contact you if there's something missing from your app, like GRE scores or transcripts, and several of my mine even have a strict "don't contact us we'll contact you" policy about missing materials. Some of them just never update that page.

I think it's probably too early to start calling and asking when decisions will be made. It's only mid-February and most places won't notify until the end of this month at the earliest. You don't want to seem pushy.

For the Berkeley status page (ourunit, or whatever it is): does everyone else have files listed under recommendations and transcripts that say "merged" and are dated January 31st? I doubt very much that this means anything terribly positive, but is it possible that Berkeley doesn't even begin looking at applications until February even though they have a December 8th deadline?

Mine all say "submitted". And the UVA one still says "Incomplete" (while placing a disclaimer that ALL applications will be listed as "incomplete" even if transcripts and writing samples have arrived at the department).

I'm just waiting for the rejection emails. sigh.

Whoa! That's gotta be stressful to see the "Incomplete."

Because of my recent GRE fiasco (they either didn't arrive or have been misfiled at three schools), I've been in touch with a few schools this week. Most have mentioned that they are only beginning their review process. I'm not expecting to see any changes or hear anything for another week or two -- though that doesn't keep me from checking email and online application sites every day.

Oh, I check.

The minute first responses are posted for any of my four, I'll start getting hives, no doubt about it (even though I'm sure it's rejections, WAITING for them is excruciating. I'm keeping myself busy by getting ready for next year, job hunting, and trying to get out of my current financial fiasco hahaha).

Since I haven't heard from UVA re any missing stuff, I'm assuming they got everything. If they didn't - I guess it's my bad. I was especially disturbed when I saw "transcripts - incomplete" and was about to throw a hissy fit and call ye olde college with some choice curses, when I saw their disclaimer. So Fewments to UVA :P. May the Unseen University in Ankh-Morpork have a magical accident on UVA's application site and turn it to flying doves. Oook.

Mine also say "submitted," Venetia. Some of them have the nice list of what they've received from you, which eases the mind a bit. Like hadunc, I also got the "don't call us, we'll call you" from a few of mine back in December. So I'm sticking with that. I did see that at least three people claim to have heard from UNC Chapel Hill's English program (one back on January 24th!!!), and I about threw up when I saw that. I really like their program and the few interactions I've had with folks. So I'm trying not to freak out too much. Just checking my email and the websites constantly.

UNC was one of the schools that claimed to be missing my GREs. (Turns out, they were just misfiled.) Anyway, I mentioned in my correspondence with the grad secretary that I hoped the delay wouldn't affect my review because I knew a couple of folks had already received offers. The grad sec sent me a really nice email confirming that the scores were found and that only a VERY* few applicants had been notified and that the committee was still reviewing applications.

OMG, Nighthob! Thank you so much for this information. I was really sweating this one but trying not to get disappointed. My husband tried to help by saying if I haven't gotten an official rejection yet I still have a chance. It's funny that over the last two weeks my mind has really settled on 3 of the 6 I've applied to. That's giving me some peace that I'll know what to accept if I am fortunate enough to get more than one offer.

And another hurrah and congratulations to you on your first acceptance! Go good woman :D Let's hear it for the returning students!

You're welcome. Made me feel much better too!

And thanks! I'm super excited. I found out yesterday when I got an email saying I'm being nominated for a Graduate Fellowship there! It's funny -- I only applied to U of South Carolina because my mom asked me to; it's close to home.

That's just like me with Bloomington. My dad lives 45 minutes north of there. I was actually born in Lafeyette when my dad was doing his PhD in Physics at Purdue :) All in all, it wouldn't be bad for my kids to live close to their grandfather either. Maybe things really do work out how they are supposed to? I'm super, super excited for you about the Graduate Fellowship. That is wonderful!
