ridgey Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I just received an admissions offer to an email address that I have not used at all in relation to my application to a particular school. It's my old work email, and I knew I would not be working there when admissions decusions came out, so I used my personal email for applications. I was checking in case my old boss needed anything from me. Moral of the story - check ALL your emails, especially any that are associated with a university!
downtownchick Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 How did they get your old work email address?
ridgey Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 No idea - I think it is google-able, and it would be the same format as two of my recommenders' emails, i.e. firstname.lastname@uni
TMP Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Well, that's what Gmail is for. It collects all e-mails from all of your addresses, old and new, when you set e-mail forwarding up.
JerryLandis Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I was contacted on my actual email address to say that a department had emailed me at my high school address (which hasn't worked since I left high school) but was unable to reach me. I guess they had that email address on file from when I applied to take a class there in high school, since I lived just down the road from the university. Anyways, it would have been impossible for me to check that email address, but I guess that if they really need to contact you (unless it's a rejection), they'll figure it out and send the message to the correct address once you don't reply for a while.
tepidtenacity Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 The interview offer from one of my top choices was sitting in my spam folder for a whole week... for some reason, the follow up email wasn't considered spam, so I saw it but it sure confused me. It was a one-liner saying "Please confirm the faculty you would like to interview with." and I was like, does this mean I got an interview, or if I choose the wrong people, I don't get my interview? lol

I have been checking my spam folder whenever I see anything new in it just in case.
