OSU - Referred?

I don't know for sure, but I would assume that it means that the department has made a decision of some sort on your application and now it has been "referred" to the graduate school with their recommendation.

Personally, I wouldn't pay much attention to the status of the application until it says "accepted" or "rejected." It's just an extra bureaucratic step in the admission process that may or may not be completed in an entirely timely manner. I think it was about a month after my transcripts were received that they were posted on the site. I don't imagine that this is really all that much more accurate at any given time until the process is done.

I have heard a number of responses. The two most popular are as follow: It's an indication you have been recommended for admission by the department, and have been referred to the graduate school for approval (a formality to insure that you meet the basic requirements for admission). I have also heard that it indicates that you have been admitted, but they have now referred your application to the graduate fellowship council for funding purposes.

Maybe someone with more intimate knowledge of the admission process at tOSU can offer some more legitimate insight.

Thanks for the replies. I posted this in the math/stat area, as well, and I got a reply that indicated it means admission has been granted. The other poster said he/she heard from OSU shortly after the change. It's been a little over a week since the change but I've not heard from them. I'll keep you all posted and good luck!

I'm not sure what it means, but it may be department specific. I'm applying for English and I'm still in "AcadRev". Good luck!

For anyone else who has applied at OSU and is reading this post, I believe the use of the app status IS department specific. I happened to hear from the department by email, and didn't see any change reflected on the web page.

Which reminds me - every once in a while I get an email from schools still trying to get me to apply. ULTIMATELY aggravating at this particular time.

  • 2 weeks later...

I applied to the OSU History Grad School PhD program and am still waiting to hear from them. When I visit the "Applicant Center," it says the status is "Evaluation" and expands to say, "Your application is currently in the process of being evaluated and prepared for an academic decision." Seeing as it is a bit late in the game (I think), is it fair to assume that I'm probably going to be dumped?

I agree with this. My app status never changed and the department emailed me saying I was accepted. The letter took an almost two weeks to get here after that. So, some departments don't seem to update the online status. I've noticed this in multiple schools and have completely stopped looking on the schools I haven't heard from yet.

So I checked today, and the web page now has my decision marked on it. It also has a link for me to accept/decline. I am still waiting for any official postal response.
