SLPsingballs Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 VENT: Yes, I would like some cheese with my whine (and some wine with my whine too!) Seriously. I. Hate. Packing. It has been about 105-110 F here in Los Angeles this weekend, and I'll be moving my whole family to Washington in approximately 10 days. Packing, children, heat, are just not fun right now. We had a yard sale this weekend, and I melted. Everything is stressful and scary, but I'm so soooooo thrilled to be headed toward a beautiful town that doesn't get as hot as 110 F in the summer; especially because I will be going to grad school (FINALLY) for SLP. Dreams and nightmares, all wrapped up together. Anyone else stressing over a major move? Anyone have any packing tips? Anyone want to pack all my stuff and drive it up the Pacific Coast for me (hah)? Or maybe take half my stuff and start some huge bonfire at the beach? That is all. VENT OVER.

Sometimes, I wish I could be an unfettered grad student, who is just beginning their adult life, rather than an adult with an established life (read that as a lot of stuff to pack). I'm only moving 5.5 hours away, but I still have to pack it all or most of it anyway (I own the house I now live in). I had to hire movers to load, drive the UHaul, and unload. I have some serious literature and criticism texts that I have read as part of my education. Getting rid of all the casual stuff and not moving those again, but moving all of the literature. I got a book catalog app and scanned every book into it. I have 200 books and they are now catalogued and I can just look at the way they are alphabetized to put them on the shelves as I unpack. Best $4.99 I have spent in a while. Good luck with your move.
plume Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I am currently typing from a weird Airbnb in Buffalo, New York right now on my way from Colorado to Boston so I FEEL YOU! Yes, I am ecstatic to be in grad school but this moving thing blows. I'm tired of living out of a car and I don't have an apartment yet! However, I can't complain because I have never moved a family before. The only tip I can offer is get rid of stuff!!! And I am using U-Box—it is great to not have to haul all of my things myself. Good luck!
