I don't know about the 38 number, but I will vouch for the fact that good news is coming from the Vice Chair of Graduate Studies via e-mail (mine came in at 14:56 EST), not the website. The website still tells me that a decision has not been reached!

And I have gotten my acceptance through the website, but no letter!

I just got my acceptance letter at around 1:30 Eastern, so they're definitely still notifying! Anyone going to the admitted student thingy?

Fingers crossed for those still waiting! By the way, my online decision status is still just "submitted," so they're all mixed up.

I got mine about 11am PST (2pm Eastern), and I'm earlyish in the alphabet. Letter included a first-year fellowship offer, but I'm not sure whether or not that is standard. If not, that may be a contributing factor in their sporadic-seeming methods of notification. The admitted students event is during my work's spring break, so my chances of attending that are very high!

Waitlisted......

Though the email I got from the graduate representative was very nice and personal, so at least it felt better than a form letter.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if anyone got into UCLA and is probably not going (because you got into a program you prefer), can you let them know ASAP? It's one of my top choices and I'd like to get in/spend less time in limbo if possible. :)

Yeah, way to go dudes! Reading all of this good news makes waiting for the rest of my schools a little less painful.

But really, it's still pretty painful.

I'm also on the waitlist. UCLA is my #1 choice... and I only applied to four schools.

I would like to call and ask a million questions - what my chances are, when I should know for sure, how many people have to commit elsewhere in order for me to make it in. Does anyone have any advice for waitlist etiquette? I don't want to be a pest, but it sure would be nice to know some details.

It depends on the program, but as a general rule, showing interest (especially if it's your top choice) is advisable. Perhaps you write to the DGS, reiterate your interest in the program, and ask about the waitlist history (has other waitlistees been accepted in the past?) This way, you can solicit details without pressing him/her too much? Good luck!
