Hey all,

I just looked on the University of Chicago site and it says that "As a general rule, students apply in December for admission to school the following autumn quarter. Applications are considered by the Committee on Admissions and Aid in January and February, with letters of acceptance and decline as well as financial aid offers being mailed at the beginning of March. The application period is currently open; click here for more information."

With that said, I was wondering when folks who applied to the A.M. or A.M.R.S. program heard back last year?

I'm going to be in Chicago on the weekend of the 15th, and I'd like to plan a trip if I get in; I'd feel very silly if I visited the school and got rejected that evening.

University of Chicago A.M. applicant here. If you log into their application system, it says the following:

Notes on your Application:

Your application to the M.A. Program is complete and has been forwarded to the Admissions Committee. You can expect to hear from them in mid-March. Sandy Norbeck Assistant Dean of Students

I wouldn't start expecting to hear back from them until the 15th or so, at the earliest. My guess is that they have to come to some sort of conclusion about the number of Ph.D. candidates that they're going to accept before they can begin to talk about accepting students for the Masters programs.

Were there any posts from previous years on the Results page? In case you don't know how to get there:

1. Scroll to the top of the page. Do you see the menu where it says Forums, Members, Calendar, Blogs, Chat, Results Search...

2. STOP. That's the one. Results Search. Click on that.

3. In the search box, type "Chicago religion". Hit search.

You'll find a number of results from past years that will give you an indication of when to expect an answer. Much more effective than posing the question here, which is a board mainly populated with current applicants and one must use the word "populated" loosely.

The last few years they have sent out notification around the middle of March. My acceptances have all been via mail and not through e-mail or via the telephone.

Be patient and good luck!

I had no idea about this feature. Thanks for the great recommendation!

Ok, so in the Results Search (It is addictive!), someone reported that they found out that they had been accepted to the A.M. program when they were withdrawing their application. They were also told that their letter was going to be sent out on Friday.

Someone else then said that you could call the office and ask for your decision (which seemed dubious).

Now, I just called, and I was told that you can't, in fact, ask for your decision over the phone, and that A.M. decisions will be mailed out in the next day or two.

Does anyone have a clearer/different answer??

In case you haven't hear from them yet (I'm still waiting on the East Coast), I called yesterday (3/10) and was told that all letters were placed in the mail that day. Seeing that a handful of results are posted today, I'd say that seems to be accurate.
