lauras Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I'm going to apply in Fall 09 for English PhD programs and want to help my application by submitting a paper to a conference. Is there a good on-line resource for finding conferences in my area? Does anyone have any other advice for me? Are conferences a good place to network with potential future professors?
Minnesotan Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Your best resources are your professors in the area you want to pursue, and the professional organizations and their respective publications. For instance, if you're in history, the AHA and their publications would be a great place to look for calls. Also, there are normally tons of grad student conferences designed particularly for those of us who are still green, trying to make names for ourselves. Many are interdisciplinary in nature, meaning your topic will often fit the conference theme, with only minor tweaking. Again, your department, or the departments of humanities or interdisciplinary studies at your home institution will likely have information on such opportunities.
rising_star Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 http://cfp.english.upenn.edu/ It's a very comprehensive resource for finding conferences and calls for papers in English. Be forewarned that undergrads aren't really expected to have traveled to and presented at conferences.
Minnesotan Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 How did I miss her clearly stating that she was applying to English programs? I blame the 150 mid-terms I had to grade over the weekend.
lauras Posted January 1, 2008 Author Posted January 1, 2008 You are fantastic brittdreams! Thanks for the link.
