Hi,

Has anyone who applied to Columbia Social Work for the January 15 deadline heard yet?

Thanks and good luck to all!

Not yet and I am worried that I won't hear for a while. I just found out last week that my transcripts had been filed under my maiden name which delayed my application from being sent out for review ohmy.gif ! I'll probably be the last file that they review...not god.

I applied for the 2 year program by the Jan 15th deadline back in October and I was accepted in late November. When I called the admissions office to ask a few questions, they were very surprised that I'd been accepted so early and said my application must've been accidentally bundled in with the spring applicants or something. I think it's a fluke I heard so early and wouldn't fret about it at this point. According to the results search, only me and possibly one other applicant has heard back so far. The results search says financial aid decisions weren't even rendered until the end of March last year! So unfortunately, it looks like there's a lot more waiting ahead of us.

Good luck to you both. I hope you both get acceptances!

That is great news for you TerriM!

cupojoe, that is crazy that your transcripts got filed under your maiden name - they lost my grad ones which totally held me up!

Hmmm...well, last year most people heard around February 19, so perhaps they have quite a few more this time around.

Oh man, Feb. 19? I can't take much more of this waiting. I hope that not that many more ppl applied than last year. This is still my top choice. I just hope that I can earn enough money/scholarships/financial aid package if I can make it in.

I agree, this whole waiting thing needs to be over ;) Checking out this forum makes me feel like I'm somewhat in control of things, lol.

Btw TerriM (and if you don't mind my asking), since you were accepted back in the fall, were you given a definitive date to accept/decline your offer or did you request more time to make a final decision about Columbia?

According the email I got yesterday, we should hear from Columbia by the end of the week.

Did you email to ask the status of your application or did they just send you an email? I don't understand why they are taking so long this year, it seems like every other year they have let people know in mid-February :(

I didnt ask them. I just got the email. The subject said 'Decisions Update' (SO misleading!) And YES it is taking forever. I dont know whats going on. But anywho, its reads:

Thank you for completing your application to Columbia University's School of Social Work.

We are currently in the process of reviewing applications and will be notifying applicants of their decision via email starting later this week. Unfortunately, we will not be able to notify you of your decision over the phone. Once you get an email, you can log in to your application to view your decision at:

Please be sure to add
to your address book and update your profile with any email address changes.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Admissions at
or 212-851-2400.

Sincerely,

The Office of Admissions

Yes, I have to respond by March 15th. Hopefully we get financial aid info by then! Strangely enough, I got the same email as Ish3742. Welcome to the forums, by the way :).

Well - I got into Columbia!

Finally - and happy about it!

But now comes the REAL challenge...paying for it. I am going to start a new thread now about people's thoughts and approaches on paying such a high a tuition

I feel like I should be more excited about this as it was the only school I applied to because it had just what I was looking for. But do I want to pay off loans until age 70?
