  1. ok thanks, I do plan on accepting the job offer so I can pay for grad school haha. Is there a general consensus that hcp is a bit easier to get into? Also would you mind sharing your general stats? gpa/gre/pubs/etc?
  2. Is the part time MS any easier than the full time one to get into? I know they say they're both subject to the same admissions process, but should having an employer fund your degree give you a bit of a boost? I applied for the full time MS back in December, and just recently received an employment offer from a SCPD member company (you need to work at a member company to enroll part time) Would it be favorable to inform graduate admissions I'd like to pursue a part time degree at this point instead? Or just wait for results as usual and consider my options from there?
  3. From what I know, it's either no funding (aside from loans/fin aid/work study) or a few grand if you're a top student (maybe 10 a year?) as a Tesla Scholar. I'd consider it if my employer pays for it, but it's a but hard to afford without aid.
  4. I know it's not PhD but there's no MS thread so....Columbia MS is out today, got in!
  5. partly my fault, but I didn't realize the recommendation results were sent out only AFTER you submit the app and pay...like wtf? Why do they do it that way? I asked my recommenders if they could kindly submit it again but still.....wtf columbia? You can edit your app after submission too which is nice, but it's really confusing.
  6. Gah, Stanford's my top choice (I posted stats earlier in the thread) but I assume no one interviews Master's students right? I'm worried because I feel like they'll prioritize giving Master's admissions to PhD applicants who didn't get the PhD offer, and are given the consolation MS instead. I actually just want the MS...
  7. If by top schools you mean MIT/Stanford/etc I highly doubt you'd get in with a 311. You'd need a stellar GPA and significant research/project/work experience to make up for it. Even if you got a 170Q, that would mean you'd have a 141V at best which definitely raises some flags. I'd suggest either retaking the GRE if some of your schools have later deadlines, and aiming a bit lower. As long as you have taken considerable coursework in CS with your general electives and have had a good amount of work/research experience with CS applications such as algorithm design/ML/AI/etc (or whatever field you're interested in) you could argue you'd be a successful transfer in terms of major.
