  1. Each year the APA releases this book: https://www.apa.org/pubs/books/4270098.aspx Graduate Study in Psychology. It lists each university by state and has up-to-date information on enrollment numbers, criteria, emphases (whether research experience is weighted higher than GRE score, for example), and contact information. I would reccomend purchasing a copy. I also reccomend that you apply to a variety of schools, some that you feel overqualified for, some that fit your qualifications, and some that may be a bit of a reach. Meanwhile, find and contact specific professors whose research is interesting to you. Keep your emails polite and concise, and think of a good subject-line (IO Student Interested in Researching " "), that conveys you know a bit about the person you are emailing. Best of luck to you!
  2. GWU made 3 initial offers. Those candidates visited the campus last Friday, so they may be making there decisions soon.
  3. Penn State just started interviewing this week, but hasn't made any offers yet.
  4. Hi Everyone, Just wondering if anyone has heard anything from USF? Thanks!
  5. I see this has not been updated in a while, and I am wondering a few things about Norfolk and the ODU area: has the outlook on biking improved at all (bike lanes, paths, or increased presence)? Also, have the previously mentioned "good neighborhoods" remained so, or have things changed or deteriorated? Thanks!
  6. Thanks for your reply. You are right that I should discuss this with a trusted professor, but the semi-anonymity of the internet is comforting. It's not that crazy things pop up if I am googled, it is actually a mugshot that I am worried about. The specific details surroudning it are not available online, but the picture itself is. So I may have made it sound worse than it is with my post, although I do doubt that most other applicants have a mugshot . I am just trying to find the correct balance between honesty and too much information. I don't want them to think I am misrepresenting myself, but I also don't want to focus too much on a bad month I had.
  7. I do not have the greatest history. Early on in my adult life I made some poor decisions, which resulted in a few run-ins with the law and other adverse effects. I have since made drastic changes to my life, which include a new location, sobriety, and an undergraduate eduacation. My life problems are in the past, but easily observable on google. Should I address my histroy in my SOP? Should I ignore it and hope that admissions does not google my name? I plan on pursuing a PhD, and I do not want to be passed over because of things I did 7 years ago. I have maintained a 3.9 GPA through undergrad and my GRE scores are around the 80th %ile. I am just wondering if anyone has some advice for me, I have what it takes to make it, but I just don't know how much my past will haunt me.
  8. Brent, thanks for sharing those resources! Very user-friendly.
  9. I know there is still 3/4ths of a year, but the sooner I can figure out my LORs the better. I am wondering if my undergraduate advisor is an appropriate person to ask for an LOR. This person knows my grades and has vouched for me on several occasions in order to get me into various classes. My other option would be a professor in an entirely unrelated field that I have had for two semesters. Is one better than the other?
  10. Thanks, I will look into that. Is it more of an OB type degree?
  11. Did you name a specific professor that you wanted to work with or just inform them of your research interests? Also, did you contact anyone there ahead of time or just apply? I hear mixed opinions as to whether or not that is a good thing to do. I am also wondering if anyone there is studying virtual training. Thanks, and good luck with your applications!
  12. Hello, I am wondering if anyone else one here is interested in the GW IO program, has already applied, has already been accepted, or just has some information for me. I have looked over their website several times but I am looking for other things that are not readily found on the web page. If anyone replies to any aspect of this post I will happily provide more detailed information for discussion. Thank you!
  13. Thanks miss Lemon, I was wondering more about the 2nd part... whether a highly ranked I/O program is presumed to have a strong management development program. Or should I even care about how a program is ranked if I find a Prof there who is doing research I find interesting? I guess I am just wondering what else and how else to find a program besides dated top ten lists.
  14. Hello everyone, I am wondering if anyone knows which schools I should be looking at if I am interested in management training and interventions. I am looking for a phd program, currently have an undergrad gpa of 3.89 and on the practice GRE I scored Q162 and V158. I have looked at the siop page and rankings extensively, as well as the usnews rankings. However, the siop hasn't been updated since 2002, and the usnews 2009. I am also wondering if I should assume a good overall program will be strong in my area of interest. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is hard to find good(or any!) advice on this topic. Thanks again, and if I need to provide more information I can definatly do that. -Andrew
  15. I am wondering if anyone has some information on which I/O Phd programs are more focused on the applied side of things. I am not very interested in a career in academia, I would much prefer to be a consultant. I have pretty good grades and anticipate doing well on the GRE. Thank you!
