  1. Also, to update the dream log... Last night I had a dream where I received a personalized rejection letter from Chicago. It was co-authored by 2 of my POIs and said something to the effect of "we really wanted to admit you, but you were right on the edge and ultimately we couldn't find you a spot." If the adcomm at Chicago does anything other than burst out laughing when they skim my application, then I will be ecstatic.
  2. I have a random question: when programs offer visiting days for accepted students, do they normally fall on weekends? Perhaps 2012-ers remember from last year? Thanks!
  3. Wow, I've never seen this list before. The averages seem surprisingly low to me - do you think it is accurate?
  4. No, it was the last one. I called the department, and they gave me an e-mail address for him to send it to.
  5. I'd do exactly what lisajay says: ask your professor if you can develop your first 7 page into a 40 pager for the second one, and in turn, that one into a 21-25 pager.
  6. My senior seminar had one 7 page mid-term paper, and one 25 page final paper. The idea was to begin to form your ideas in the smaller paper, and then substantially develop them in the longer one. Every class I have taken in my MA program (which is integrated into the PhD program) has been done this way. It was a great way to learn how to write a seminar paper.
  7. I had a dream where I was delivering my SOP as a stand-up comedy performance. As in... my statement is a joke....
  8. One of my recommenders is having a problem uploading his letter to Penn State. He said he uploaded it and received confirmation, but on my end it says not received. For my 2 other recommenders, it does say received. This professor is very on top of things, so I am wondering if anyone else knows of their recommenders having problems with Penn State? I will try to get in touch with them on Monday, but I am not sure anyone will be in the office.
  9. So glad someone else picked Mitchell too!
  10. Yes...sigh. It'll never happen, but... a kid can dream.
  11. 1) Freud (No one else has listed him?!) 2) Lacan (Can you see where I'm going with this?...) 3) WJT Mitchell (Well, this list took a turn...) 4) 4th one is tough... Benjamin? Foucault? Barthes? Laura Mulvey? Kristeva? Graham Harman?
  12. I submitted my Penn State app last week, and did not have any problems like this at all. Hmm... maybe wait and try it again later? It's not due for a while.
  13. Yes! Let's hope so! See you there! Haha
  14. Upvote, as promised. But I wish it were that simple! Of the 15, 4 or 5 are probably way beyond plausible acceptances. So it's really like I am applying to 10...
  15. Hmm, I'm not really interested in betting, but how about bribing? Someone assure me I'll get in somewhere, and I'll give you an upvote? Fair?
  16. Just sent in my last application! Number 15. Now the dreaded wait...
  17. I can tell you for a fact that Buffalo has not begun going over applications yet... The adcom (comprised of students and faculty) will not meet until early January.
  18. My Plan B: Let myself go, cry in bed all day, and eat donuts by the dozens.
  19. Some schools have separate deadlines for the app and the recommendations (off the top of my head I know Buffalo and Riverside both do). For most programs, I think it matters if a rec comes in months late, but not if it is a few days late. A few might mind though - If I remember correctly, Michigan places a great deal of importance on everything, letters included, being on time.
  20. Well, if I was having trouble getting my work done before, this news is certainly not helping. I know I am not planning on becoming an elementary teacher, but as I attempt to make progress on the applications that will lead me to become (hopefully) an educator in the future, this news from CT is just hitting me hard. Sigh.
  21. I have completed all of mine that are due until Dec. 15th, and have completed some due into January. So I now have 12 done. I hope deciding to do so many was a good decision. All of the advisors in my MA program recommended 15 at the very least.
  22. I have submitted 11 apps. I really want to finish all of my remaining ones before I go on a 10 day vacation, but I am suffering from serious application fatigue. Anyone else having this problem?
  23. I'm gearing up for rejection from Chicago, but I think no matter how much I assume it, I'll still be a little heart-broken when I see it for certain. Hey, a kid can dream.
  24. I applied to Miami U a few years ago when I was applying to MA programs. I remember in late February I got an e-mail from them. The subject line read "Congratulations!" and I got soooo excited, and then the body of the e-mail read something like "Your application is complete and the admissions committee will begin its review process next week." And then like 2 months later I was rejected. They like to play with our emotions.
